Dr. Kirk Jeffreys is a native of Jackson, Mississippi and graduated from Mississippi State University in 1991. In 1995 he received his Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Mississippi School of Medicine. Dr. Jeffreys completed his internship in Internal Medicine and residency in Ophthalmology at the University of Mississippi Medical Center. He also completed the Basic Science Course in Ophthalmology from Harvard University.

Dr. Jeffreys is board certified through the American Board of Ophthalmology and his clinical practice includes all areas of comprehensive Ophthalmology with special interests in cataract and refractive surgery.

Dr. Farrah Newman is a native of Columbus, Mississippi and graduated summa cum laude from Mississippi State University in 1999. In 2005, she received her Doctor of Medicine from the University of Mississippi School of Medicine. Dr. Newman completed her internship in Internal Medicine and residency in Ophthalmology at the University of Mississippi Medical Center. She served as Assistant Professor in Department of Ophthalmology at University of Mississippi Medical Center from 2009-2012. In addition to practicing ophthalmology in private practice in Mississippi from 2012-2016, Dr. Newman served as a medical missionary physician providing ophthalmic care and surgery at Tenwek Mission Hospital in Bomet, Kenya from 2016-2018.

Dr. Newman is board certified through the American Board of Ophthalmology and her clinical practice includes all areas of comprehensive ophthalmology and cataract surgery.

Dr. Tina Sorey was born in Forest, Mississippi and graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Southern Mississippi in 1994. In 1998 she received her Doctor of Optometry from the New England College of Optometry in Boston, Massachusetts.

Dr. Sorey’s professional training in Optometry includes completed Internships at the VA Medical Center in Boston, Dorchester House Multi-Service Center in Dorchester, Massachusetts, Lahey Clinic North Medical Center in Peabody, New England Eye Institute in Boston and the South Boston Community Health Center. Dr. Sorey has been a practicing optometrist in the Jackson area since 1998, and in private practice in Flowood, Mississippi since 2005. She became Board Certified through the National Board of Optometry in 1998.

Dr. Lee Jones is a native of Lake Charles, Louisiana and graduated from Louisiana College in 2012. In 2016, he received his Doctor of Medicine from the Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center in Shreveport. Dr. Jones completed his internship in Internal Medicine and residency in Ophthalmology at the University of Mississippi Medical Center from 2016-2020. He also completed the Basic Science Course in Ophthalmology from the University of Texas.

A native of New Orleans, Troy Newman, M.D. is a board certified, fellowship trained glaucoma and anterior segment surgeon.

Dr. Newman attended Louisiana State University, where he received his Undergraduate degree in 1995, and his Doctor of Medicine degree in 2003.  He completed his internship in Internal Medicine and residency in Ophthalmology at The University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, and his Glaucoma Fellowship at The University of Alabama-Birmingham.

Dr. Newman began his career in private practice for nine years before moving with his family to Kenya in 2016, where they served together at Tenwek Mission Hospital for two years. Upon returning to the U.S. in 2018, Dr. Newman joined the faculty at UMMC. He and his wife, also an Ophthalmologist, share a passion for international travel and medical missions. They have been blessed with four children who keep them very busy.
