Cataract Surgery

A cataract is a clouding of the eye’s naturally clear lens, causing light rays entering the eye to scatter instead of focusing directly on the retina at the back of the eye. This causes blurred vision.

Cataract development is a normal process of aging, but also may be caused by eye injuries, certain diseases, medications or long-term exposure to sunlight.

Surgery is the only way to remove a cataract, and should be considered once vision impairment begins to negatively impact your quality of life, and your ophthalmologist has performed a thorough eye examination to confirm you are a candidate.

In cataract surgery, one of the safest and most successful surgical procedures performed today, the cloudy lens is removed through a tiny surgical incision roughly the size of a pen tip. The natural lens is replaced with a permanent intraocular lens (IOL) implant.

The success rate of cataract surgery is excellent – as improved vision at a range of distances is achieved for patients, providing other vision problems are not present. Patients return home the very same day, and the results are truly life-changing.
